New Workout Routine: Get Strong

Ive been doing the Reddit Bodyweight Recommended Routine off and on for 2 years. I have seen some very good results in that time. It has helped me get into some of the best shape of my life. Still I am feeling like a change would help me progress mainly with my pull ups.

A few days ago I did a basic search for “calisthenics blog” and came across Al Kavadlo. He is a high energy hilarious personality with a lot of exercise knowledge. Then I saw they have a book and got it.

Today was our first workout. Kate started on Phase 1 and I’m on Phase 2. We both got through our workouts and enjoyed them incredibly. Looks like we got a new game in town.

Mobility training – animal walks

Staying mobile is really important to me. I want to be able to hike any mountain anytime. Go for a 50 bike ride cause there’s a beer waiting for me. Do manual labor cause a friend needed some help.

I did yoga pretty seriously for a few years. Even got my 200 hour training course done. The issue I have with yoga is that it’s a little too focused on stretching in ways that my body just isn’t equipped for. Namely hamstrings.

With that in mind I started focusing on body exercises a few years ago mainly so I could work on a farm for a summer. I really enjoy the movements and can feel stronger in many ways.

The next level of body weight training I’m looking into is mobility training. The video below is one of the next tutorials I’ve seen so far.

Today’s Workout – Walkin’ in the rain

It is raining like cats and dogs here in Napa. Naturally Kate is out of town so I get all this great weather to myself, and the doggers.

Super excited to be here!

Still I wanted to get a workout in even with less than ideal weather. We have a nice trail around camp here so I put on my rain jacket and had a nice 46 minute walk in the rain. I should have taken more pictures but there were little Bambi’s and a lot of rain. Oh it is also very green here in Napa.

Riding and hiking in Tucson

For my birthday weekend we did lots of biking around Tucson. We also did a hike in the middle of town that was pretty short but steep and had a great view.
