Rolling again and again

It has been a while since we posted anything here. To be clear this is Roger and I am pretty much the only one who ever does post something here. I have probably written about posting more often here than I have just written here. So here is my promise to you: Today marks my first day of just writing here everyday because it is fun to do.

I was reading Seth Godin’s blog and he mentioned why blogging everyday for any reason is a good thing. So here I am. Thanks Seth!

Messed my knee up trying to do Pistol Squats today. I was doing great starting off easy touching my butt to a box, then a smaller box, then a smaller one. Then I got fancy and started going deeper using a band. Then my minicus felt like it was popping out the side of the knee and I knew things weren’t great. I took the rest of the day easy and have been icing it. Its the same knee that I had surgery on just a few years ago so naturally I am worried. The good news is that it didn’t swell up much and is already feeling better. Time will tell. In the meantime take care of your knees!

Trying to learn PHP for the umpteenth time. This time I have a job that is motivating me to learn it and I have a good boss who is a mentor. Now I just need to create a habit to do it. I have bought a good book and there are a number of good websites. What I need to do is find a good project to focus my attention on. If you have any ideas I am all ears.

Vicous Pit bulls!

Kate, Dazey, Enzo, and I are getting close to cruising out of Mancos for the year as the temperature is getting cold again. We will be heading to AZ for a couple months and maybe make it back to Mexico again this winter.

Just spent a weekend in Fruita, CO mountain biking at the 18 Mile Road area. Maybe its Road 18. Either way it is 18 miles from the CO/UT border and has some really fun trails. Kate and I have been riding some old but badass titanium bikes from an old high school friend and his dad. Thanks Derek! Kate enjoyed PBR and is getting more comfortable riding off road every time we go out. I got on Joe’s Ridge and Zippity Do Da. Those are fast and wild trails!

I have been writing this using the new Gutenberg editor that WordPress is coming out with soon. It’s getting better to use and I think it will help me write more. The interface is cleaner than the old setup and I am more focused on writing right now than worried about HTML, categories, SEO, or any of the other crap that readers just aren’t concerned with.

I am listening to Michael Caine’s book Blowing the Bloody Doors Off. It’s a memior of sorts. He tells a lot of stories about his life and tries to pass off some information. At the very least it is entertaining and since the man himself is reading it it is a lot of fun.

The Beastie Boys just came out with a book and the audio version has a lot of folks reading it. Kate is even interested in listening and that is saying a lot.

I think we might be getting new phones this year! The iPhone XR looks pretty good and is a lot cheaper than the XS models. The battery life is supposed to be better since its an LCD screen and the low light camera capabilities appear to be better than the more expensive XS’s. I am excited about Face ID as Touch ID is driving me a little batty.

All that said I am doing my best to get back to not focusing on material things to be happy. Well at least not needing the newest of everything. When we were biking last weekend I got a lot of new thing envy of everyone’s awesome full suspension disk brake badass bikes. I am sure I would love having one but do I need one? Probably not. I think saving up and finishing our little building on the land makes more sense for now.

Rainy Work Day at Myakka State Forest

We have been enjoying some mellower temperatures at Myakka State Forest the last two days. Today has been a rainy one but still nice enough to work from our ‘patio’ which consists of a folding table, folding chairs, and the trailer awning supplying protection from the rain.

We have stepped up our game with the dogs as well. Besides regularly exercizing them with the Bike Tow Leash we are also working on some different training regimens like Sit and Down. One neat thing we started doing was making snacks with their Red Kongs.

The ASPCA website was where I first learned about doing something beyond simply sticking some treats in there. They recommend putting a high value treat in first and then filling a mixture of dry and wet food and sealing it all in with some peanut butter. Needless to say Dazey and Enzo took to them like dogs and Kongs. The problem was they were getting all the food out in just a few minutes. The ASPCA recommends that if that happens then you can freeze them so it takes a little longer Today was the first day we did that and it took them a bit longer to get all the food out. Instead of 10 minutes now it takes 15 minutes…

Oh well they are happy which means we are happy.
